Norfolk State wins second consecutive MEAC Women's Cross Country Championship, Howard’s Joslyn Crosby Wins Gold

SMYRNA, Del., Nov. 2, 2024 – Norfolk State claimed their second consecutive title, and fifth overall, with five runners in the top 10 to win the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Cross Country Championship title at the Delaware State Outreach and Research Center.  

FINAL RESULTS

Howard’s Joslyn Crosby was named Outstanding Performer after winning the individual gold with a record-breaking time of 17:15.1. The finishing time is 1:10 faster than the 2023 fastest runner. Fellow Bison Mira Martin placed fourth with an 18:12.2 time. 

Kenneth Giles was named the meet’s Women’s Outstanding Coach as the Spartans collected 25 total team points.  

Norfolk State’s Mercyline Kimaiyo and Yvonne Sandui finished second and third, while teammate Leanna Lewis placed fifth. Kimaiyo ran a 17:24.5 time, while Sandui crossed the finish line with a 17:42.1 mark.  

Sonia Koech and Abigael Chebet finished sixth (18:26.6) and ninth (18:47.7) respectively aiding in the Spartans championship win.  

Joining Crosby in the top-ten for Howard were Camille Egbula with a seventh-place finish (18:34.7) and Chloe Poindexter (18:51.0) who crossed the finish line tenth. 

Maryland Eastern Shore’s Rebecca Jepngtich was eighth, running an 18:46.7 time. 

Norfolk State finished with 25 points as a team. Howard had 39 points to finish second, while N.C. Central came in third with 91 points. 
 
The top 15 finishers were named All-MEAC.
