Baltimore, Md. - The Norfolk State bowling team competed against some of the top bowling programs in the country at the Lady Eagles Invitational from Nov. 16-17 at Coppin State University.
The invitational consisted of 16 teams from nine different states along the East Coast. Norfolk State finished in 12th place, winning three out of their nine matches. Day 1 of the tournament featured five traditional matches on Saturday, with Sunday totaling four Baker matches.
The Spartans garnered wins against St. Thomas Aquinas College (862-623), Saint Anselm College (896-841), and Molloy University (881-769), each in traditional play.
Sophomore Kiersten Michel led the Spartans in the individual standings, finishing 17th out of 110 bowlers in traditional play. Michel totaled 958 pins across 5 games, averaging 191.60 per game.
Michel bowled two 200+ games: 208 against Belmont Abbey and 234 against Saint Anselm College.
In the win against St. Thomas Aquinas, LaShuana Burrus led the Spartans, bowling 212 in the win. Burrus finished the tournament, totaling 917 pins across 5 games, averaging 183.40.
The Spartans fell to Belmont Abbey College (963-902) and Felician University (879-819) in traditional play. In Quad Baker play, the Spartans lost to Dominican University (New York) (839-848) and Kutztown (850-959).
In the two Best of Baker matches, Norfolk State fell to Molly University (4-2) and Coppin State (0-4).
Felician University took first place in the invitational after posting a 8-1 record, totaling 8,656 pins (1,910 in Baker play and 4,571 in traditional play), whilst averaging 188.2 pins a game.

The next contest for the NorfolK State bowling team will be in the new year on Jan. 17-19 in Fairfield, Conn. at Sacred Heart in the Northeast Classic.
