NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 19, 2024 – The field is set for the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship, which will be held Friday through Sunday, Nov. 22-24, at Memorial Hall Gym on the campus of Delaware State University.
Howard clinched the No. 1 seed with a perfect 14-0 MEAC record after picking up a three-set sweep over the Spartans of Norfolk State in the regular season finale. The Bison claimed the regular-season championship title outright with their first perfect conference season since 2016.
Coppin State earns the No. 2 seed after going 11-3 in conference play and defeating the Bears of Morgan State in straight sets. The Eagles are the reigning MEAC tournament champions, winning the program’s first MEAC Championship in 2023.
Tournament hosts Delaware State (14-13, 10-4 MEAC) will be the No. 3 seed heading into this year's tournament. The Hornets defeated the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore in three sets.
Norfolk State (13-14) went 7-7 in conference play and head into the tournament as the No. 4 seed, while Maryland Eastern Shore (11-14, 6-8 MEAC) wrapped up the No. 5 seed after falling in three sets to the Hornets of Delaware State on senior day.
North Carolina Central (7-18) held off the Bulldogs of South Carolina State in three sets in the regular season finale to finish 5-9 in conference play. The Eagles of NCCU will enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed.
Morgan State (6-22, 2-12 MEAC) and South Carolina State (3-22, 1-13 MEAC) will be the No. 7 and 8 seeds, respectively.
Tournament play will open with the quarterfinal round on Friday, as Howard takes on South Carolina State at 11:30 a.m. Norfolk State and Maryland Eastern Shore will follow at 2:30 p.m. in a 4-5 match-up, and 5:30 p.m. will see Coppin State take on Morgan State.
The last quarterfinal match of the day will pit Delaware State against North Carolina Central at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday’s semifinal round will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the winners of the Howard-South Carolina State and Norfolk State-Maryland Eastern Shore matches squaring off – then at 8:30 p.m., the Coppin State-Morgan State and Delaware State-North Carolina Central winners will play the other semifinal.
Sunday’s championship final will be televised live at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
Tickets for the 2024 MEAC Volleyball Championship will be online and sold on-site at Memorial Hall. A weekend pass will be available for $25, while daily tickets throughout the tournament can be purchased for $10.
