CARY, N.C. - Two pairs of teammates will face each other on the final day of the MEAC Tennis Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Cary Tennis Center.
Getting the action started is a South Carolina State showdown between No. 2 Novak Novakovic and No. 4 Aissa Benchakroun teammates in the singles championship.
Novakovic advanced to the final round after defeating Mikeal Carpenter of Morgan State, 6-4, 6-0. Benchakroun moved onward following a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Howard’s Michael Major Jr.
Doubles action saw the top three seeds advance to the semifinals round including a highly anticipated match between Benchakroun/Novakovic and Hugo Hidalgo Vega/Rodrigo Alves (NCCU). In the showdown, Hidalgo Vega/Alves defeated Benchakroun/Novakovic, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the championship match.
The Eagles will face teammates Leo Fortier-Gariepy/Antoni Pankowski in the championship game on Sunday, Oct. 6, around 11 a.m.
Fortier-Gariepy/Pankowski reached the championship game following a 6-3, 6-3 victory over teammates Kareem Abdul Hakim/Oliver Saarinen.
