Benchakroun, Hidalgo Vega and Alves emerge victorious on final day of MEAC Tennis Invitational

CARY, N.C. - The inaugural MEAC Men’s Tennis Invitational concluded with Aissa Benchakroun, S.C. State, winning the individual title while N.C. Central’s Hugo Hidalgo Vega and Rodrigo Alves won the men’s doubles title on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Cary Tennis Park.  

Benchakroun claimed victory over teammate and doubles partner, Novak Novakovic, in a 7-5, 6-2 decision on Sunday morning. With the win, Benchakroun earns the MEAC’s automatic qualifying spot for the ITA Conference Masters. 

Following the singles game, the doubles teams took to the court. Similar to the morning’s singles matchup, the doubles matchup pitted a pair of teammates against each other from North Carolina Central. Hidalgo Vega and Alves competed against Leo Fortier-Gareipy and Antoni Pankowski and emerged victorious with a 6-4, 6-3 decision.  

Hidalgo Vega and Alves will join Benchakroun as the MEAC’s automatic qualifying doubles team in the ITA Conference Masters.
