MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 18, 2024 – Norfolk State guard Chris Fields, Jr. was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Howard forward Seth Towns earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. 

Fields Jr. (F, 6-7, 240, Fr., Petersburg, Va.) led the Spartans to a 118-70 victory over the Dragons from the University of Virginia-Lynchburg. He added six rebounds, two assists, and three steals in the game while shooting 12-of-13 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. 

Towns (F, 6-9, 230, Gr., Columbus, Ohio) averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds with 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals for the Bison in two games. Harris scored 12 points in the 72-61 win over Maryland Eastern Shore and followed with 27 points and 10 rebounds in the victory against Morehouse. Harris shot 80 percent (8-of-9) from the free-throw line. 

Other Top Performers

Troy Hupstead (Maryland Eastern Shore) recorded 19 points and nine rebounds, with two assists and three steals in a 72-61 loss to Howard. 


Join our Bi-Weekly MEAC Coaches Calls 

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) hosts a bi-weekly basketball coaches video conference beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The conference calls are held via Zoom and feature the men’s and women’s head coaches from each member institution.  

The videoconference will continue bi-weekly through Wednesday, March 6. The head coaches from each institution are available for a 15-minute period, including brief statements about the previous and upcoming games and opponents. Each session will conclude with a question-and-answer session with members of the media.
