MSU's Hunte Invited to Inaugural HBCU All-Star Softball Game

BALTIMORE, Md., Sept. 6, 2023 -- Morgan State rising senior pitcher Anaya Hunte played in the inaugural Minority Softball Prospects Historically Black Colleges and Universities (MSP HBCU) All-Star Game held on Friday, June 2 at Georgia Gwinnett College Softball Field in Lawrenceville, Ga.

The MSP HBCU All-Star Game featured 40 of the top HBCU women's softball players from Division I, Division II and NAIA schools from around the country.

"Playing in the first MSP HBCU All-Star Game means so much to me! It not only showed me that my hard work paid off, gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent, and meet other all-stars, it gave me the opportunity to inspire the generation after me," Hunte said. "It's something that I didn't see growing up so I am so happy to be able to provide it for younger girls who look like me."

The Burlington, N.J. native started the contest at pitcher and faced seven batters, striking out two and allowing one hit in two innings of work.

"Although I didn't hit as well as I would have liked, I performed well in the circle, as well as in the outfield," Hunte said. "I didn't have any errors in the field, didn't give up any runs, and only gave up one hit."

Hunte completed this season becoming just the second pitcher in Morgan State history to earn back-to-back MEAC Pitcher of the Year honors (2022, 2023). The two-time MEAC Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-MEAC selection, helped the Bears capture their third straight MEAC regular season crown this season. She finished the 2023 campaign recording a team-best 15 wins (15-9) and totaled 137 strikeouts in 157.2 innings pitched.

"This was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had on and off the field," Hunte said. "I met so many great people and got to experience what it's like playing with and against HBCU's out of my own conference. I even got the chance to talk to and hang out with another girl from the MEAC. The game was full of energy and it was nice being able to play without any pressure. It was definitely something I want so many other girls to experience."
