Box Score

YPSILANTI, Mich., Sept. 1, 2023 --
Howard University used a strong third quarter to get back into Friday night's game at Eastern Michigan, but the Bison's comeback fell short and the Eagles won 33-23.

The Bison fell to 0-1 on the season.

Quarterback Quinton Williams threw two touchdown passes, ging 16-for-33 in the air for 194 yards. Running back Eden James added 96 rushing yards on nine carries, and Jamarr Ebron caught two passes for 79 yards -- including a 69-yard score in the second quarter.

The Eagles (1-0) led 30-9 at the half, though Howard got on the board in the second quarter on the long strike from Williams to Ebron and a 38-yard field goal from Aaron Bickerton.

The Bison scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter. Kasey Hawthorne capped a 7-play, 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run with 8:20 left in the frame, before adding a 23-yard touchdown reception from Williams just over five minutes later.

That score cut Eastern Michigan's lead to 30-23, but the Eagles got three more late in the fourth quarter to hold on.

Kenny Gallop, Jr. and Christian White led the Bison defense with seven tackles each. Ray Williams recorded the team's first interception of the season.
