NORFOLK, Va., May 1, 2023 –
Maryland Eastern Shore junior Ameenah Ballenger has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today.
Howard’s Amelia Weber was named Rookie of the Week, and
Norfolk State’s Cam Andersen was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Ballenger (Jr., P, Landsdowne, Pa.) hit .417 with a double, triple and seven RBIs in four games last week. In addition to her success at the plate, she pitched five innings and struck out four batters in the first game of a doubleheader against Hampton.
Weber (Fr., P/UTL, Montclair, Calif.) picked up a win and a save in the doubleheader sweep of Delaware State after striking out six batters in 9.2 innings of work. In the two outings, she held opposing hitters to a 1.52 ERA. At the plate in the two games, she hit .429 and stole one base.
Andersen (Sr., P, Norfolk, Va.) pitched a total of 14.0 innings and struck out 13 batters in the Spartans’ four games last week. In the 5-1 win over Maryland Eastern Shore, she tossed a complete game while allowing four hits and one earned run. In the mid-week matchup with North Carolina Central, Anderson retired seven batters in 6.0 innings of work.

Aniyah Haley (Coppin State) hit .500 with two runs, two RBIs, and a walk in the doubleheader against South Carolina State.
Vanessa Carrizosa (Coppin State) picked up a win over South Carolina State after tossing a complete game and striking out four.
Mia Ewell (Morgan State) hit .500 and added two runs and two games against North Carolina Central.
Anaya Hunte (Morgan State) pitched a five-hit, nine-strikeout complete game shutout in the 5-0 win over North Carolina Central.
Katelyn Smitchko (Maryland Eastern Shore) logged 19.2 innings in the pitching circle, tossed three complete games and struck out 10 batters for the week.
Kenna Higa (Norfolk State) went 2-for-4 with four runs, a double and three walks in the doubleheader sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore.
