MEAC Announces Weekly Tennis Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., April 12, 2023Coppin State junior Vansh Kapoor was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today, and North Carolina Central freshman Facundo Olmedo was named Men’s Rookie of the Week. North Carolina Central sophomore Isabelle Exsted was named Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, and North Carolina Central freshman Alejandra Hidalgo Vega was named Women’s Rookie of the Week.
 
Kapoor (Jr., New Delhi, India) clinched the Eagles’ victory over Wagner with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles over Tejasvi Mehra, while also pairing with Luka Markovic for a 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles.
 
Olmedo (Fr., Miami, Fla.) defeated Norfolk State’s Ibrahim Abbas 6-3, 6-1 to improve his MEAC record to 4-0 – and he’s yet to lose a set in conference play this season.
 
Exsted (So., Savage, Minn.) defeated Norfolk State’s Niya Grant 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles for her seventh consecutive victory.
 
Vega (Fr., Madrid, Spain) extended her singles winning streak to six with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Norfolk State’s Aleksandra Evdokimova at the No. 1 singles position.
 
Other Top Performers
Rishi Jalota (Coppin State) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles in a team victory over Wagner.
 
Emperess Johnson (Coppin State) won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 singles in the Eagles’ narrow loss to Wagner.
 
Daria Jula (Delaware State) won all three singles matches this past week, defeating opponents from Howard, Rider and Loyola (Md.).
 
Noelani Lui (Delaware State) went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play this past week, picking up victories against Rider and Loyola (Md.).
 
Federico Febecchini (Norfolk State) defeated Sebastian Pino of North Carolina Central 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
 
Shaka Cristellotti (North Carolina Central) won 6-0, 6-0 over Norfolk State’s Roosevelt Brown III.
