NORFOLK, Va., April 10, 2023 – Morgan State senior Victoria Fletcher has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. North Carolina Central’s Takia Nichols was named Rookie of the Week, and Morgan State junior Anaya Hunte was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Fletcher (Sr., 3B, Huntingtown, Md.) hit .778 (7-for-9) with eight RBIs, a run and a stolen base to lead Morgan State to a 3-0 record last week. She went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a stolen base in the 8-0 win over Delaware State. Fletcher then went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs in the second game, after starting that game at pitcher, throwing five strikeouts to earn a five-inning complete game shutout victory.
Nichols (Fr., 1B, Hillsborough, N.C.) batted .667 with six hits, five RBI, one home run and four runs in NCCU's series win at Howard. She added three walks for a .750 on-base percentage and had a 1.000 slugging percentage. In Game 1, she went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored and then went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one home run, one walk and two runs scored in Game 3.
Hunte (Sr., P, Burlington, N.J.) went 2-0 for the week, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out 13 batters to improve to 12-5 on the season. In the series opener against Delaware State, she struck out six in a six-inning complete-game win and went the distance in the series finale, striking out seven and allowing an unearned run on four hits. Additionally, as a batter, she went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in Game 1.

Seyna Esparza (Coppin State) had two hit in each of the Eagles’ three games against UMES.
Ameenah Ballenger (Maryland Eastern Shore) recorded 12 strikeouts in 14.0 innings and went 2-0 for the weekend.
Jaycee Holt (Maryland Eastern Shore) hit .417 for the weekend and went 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a triple and three runs scored in Game 1 of the Coppin State series.
Kelsie Ekstrom (Maryland Eastern Shore) went 6-for-12 at the plate with three RBIs and two triples, while scoring six runs in the series against Coppin State.
Alexis Robinson (Norfolk State) struck out eight batters and went 2-0 in 7.2 innings of work in the series sweep of South Carolina State.
Kenna Higa (Norfolk State) posted a .571 batting average with two doubles, and three RBIs against South Carolina State.
Jaden Davis (North Carolina Central) picked up two wins in the circle over Howard and was 2-1 for the week.
