ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team picked up 4-3 and 6-3 road wins at South Carolina State University on Sunday afternoon to start the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) portion of its schedule with a doubleheader sweep.
Junior Imara Harrell highlighted play for the victorious Eagles with five hits on the day, including two singles, one double, one triple and one home run.
NC Central (4-20 Overall, 2-0 MEAC) will try and complete the series sweep of South Carolina State (1-16, 0-2) when the Eagles and Bulldogs play a single game on Monday beginning at noon.
Morgan State 8, Coppin State 0
BALTIMORE, Md. - Victoria Fletcher went 2-for-4 with a game-high three RBIs, while Melissa Paz and Madison Nunez each were 2-for-3, as Morgan State defeated host Coppin State, 8-0 in six innings on Sunday afternoon at CSU Softball Field.
The Lady Bears, who improved to 12-11 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), completed the series sweep and have now won eight straight over their rivals. Coppin State fell to 2-12, 0-3 MEAC.
Maryland Eastern Shore 11, Delaware State 7
DOVER, Del. — Hot bats helped the University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team handle business on Sunday afternoon, claiming an 11-7 win and a series victory over Delaware State to open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.
Sunday's win moves the Hawks to 6-11 on the young season and 2-1 to open conference play. The hosting Hornets fall to 5-12 and 1-2 in MEAC action.
The Hawks tallied 16 hits in the win, tied for the most in head coach Karla Ross's tenure. The Hawks reached the mark in a pair of games in April of 2022 as well.
Norfolk State 11, Howard 3
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Norfolk State University softball team claimed the 2-1 series victory against the Bison of Howard University after winning a Sunday matinee game 11-3 in five innings at the NSU Softball Field in Norfolk, Va.
Two high-scoring innings for the Spartans pushed NSU ahead of the Bison to claim an 11-3 victory in five innings.
