NORFOLK, Va., March 13, 2023 – Morgan State senior Victoria Fletcher has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Morgan State's Nia Lewis was named Rookie of the Week, and Morgan State junior Anaya Hunte was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Fletcher (5-8, Sr., P/1B, Huntington, W.Va.) was 10-for-17 (.588) at the plate across five games this past week for the Bears, recording 10 RBIs and scoring four runs. She had four multi-hit games, including a 3-for-3 afternoon with three RBIs on Sunday against Cornell. She hit two home runs for the week – one on Saturday against UMBC and one on Sunday against Cornell.
Lewis (5-9, Fr., OF/1B, Naperville, Ill.) hit .600 (9-for-15) in five games for the week, driving in a pair of runs and scoring five times. She had multiple hits three times, including two three-hit games (3-for-3 against Merrimack and 3-for-4 with two RBIs, three runs scored and a triple against UMBC).
Hunte (5-5, Jr., P/OF, Burlington, N.J.) recorded a pair of complete-game victories for the week, going 7.0 innings each against Cornell twice. In the first victory, she only allowed two hits and struck out eight batters, and in the second game, she scattered three hits while fanning four.
Other Top Performers
Seryna Esparza (Coppin State) went 3-for-3 against Fairleigh Dickinson and had a hit in each of the Eagles' four games.
Ameenah Ballenger (Maryland Eastern Shore) picked up the win against Holy Cross after giving up just two hits in 4.0 innings on Saturday, before striking out five in the Hawks' walkoff win on Sunday.
Nola Mountain (Maryland Eastern Shore) had three two-hit games for the week, against Towson and twice against Holy Cross.
Katelyn Smitchko (Maryland Eastern Shore) picked up a win against Holy Cross, giving up just one earned run while also going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
Jaden Davis (North Carolina Central) pitched a complete game against N.C. State, striking out five.
Makiya Graves (North Carolina Central) hit safely in all five games for the week, including a pair of multi-hit games against N.C. State.
Taylor Ames-Alexander (South Carolina State) hit .389 in six games this past week, with three extra-base hits and three runs scored.
