NEWARK, N.J. – Morgan State junior guard Kamron Hobbs scored a game and career-high 24 points and Lewis Djokam added 18 points and nine boards as the Bears defeated Delaware State at the 2023 Michael B. Jordan-led HBCU Legacy Classic with a 75-65 victory over the Hornets in the star-studded event at Prudential Arena this afternoon.
The HBCU Legacy doubleheader, which featured Norfolk State University and Hampton University in the second game, was televised live on Turner Network Television (TNT) and broadcast by network personalities Grant Hill, along with Stephanie Ready and Taylor Rooks.
Hobbs scored 15 of his 24 points off the bench in the first half and finished the game connecting on 4-of-8 3-pointers. He also had five steals and three assists. Djonkam came off the bench and scored a season-high 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting and collected a team-high nine rebounds with two assists, a block and a steal.
The Bears will face North Carolina Central on the road next Saturday (Feb. 11) in the McDouglad-McLendon Arena in Durham, N.C. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

NEWARK, N.J. – Rivalry games bring a chance for players to elevate their game in high-pressure moments, and Norfolk State guard Joe Bryant Jr. has seized those opportunities this season. After willing the Spartans to victory in December's Battle of the Bay against Hampton, Bryant led his team to a sweep of the Pirates on Saturday with a season-high 29 points.
Bryant was named Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic MVP for his performance in NSU's 83-71 victory, helping the Spartans improve to 16-7 on the year. Heading into the second half trailing by one, Norfolk State outscored Hampton 48-35 in the final 20 minutes to secure a win in front of 13,451 fans at the Prudential Center.
Norfolk State returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Maryland Eastern Shore. NSU defeated UMES in the foes' first matchup of the season, the Hawks’ only loss in conference play thus far.
