DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over UNC Greensboro at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.
The action began with intense doubles play that saw the units swinging momentum back and forth throughout.
Junior Shaka Cristellotti and freshman Liam Murtaugh defeated Harrison Gwynn and Devon Moskowitz 6-2 to set the tone.
UNCG's David Flisberg and John Gabelic beat graduate student Sebastian Pino and sophomore Oliver Saarinen 6-4 to set up the deciding third match.
In the third match, freshmen Kareem Abdul Hakim and Facundo Olmedo outlasted Christopher Johns and Tymofiy Khrystyuk 7-6 to claim the first point for the maroon and gray.
In singles action, Pino defeated Flisberg (6-2, 6-4) to pick up his first singles victory of the season, while Saarinen was clipped by Gabelic (6-1, 6-4) to make the count 2-1.
On court three Abdul Hakim picked up his second singles victory of the season after he beat Khrystyuk (6-4, 3-6, 7-6), while his classmate Naresh Bharathy also earned his second win of the season on court four, defeating Johns (2-6, 6-4, 7-5) to clinch the victory for the Eagles.
Additionally in singles action, Olmedo fought hard but fell to Andrew Black (5-7, 6-3, 9-11), while fellow freshman Neiman Sneed was tripped by Wyatt Cannon 6-1, 6-4.
