Maryland Eastern Shore Finishes Third in Stallings Invite

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- 
Maryland Eastern Shore went 1-1 in bracket play on the final day of the Vern Stallings Invitational with its one victory coming against National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) No. 6 North Carolina A&T State. The Hawks entered bracket play as the fourth seed and dropped the opening match to NTCA No. 2 Vanderbilt 4-0.

UMES (66-37, 10-6 MEAC) then topped the host Aggies to grab third place in the event.

Brooke Roberts made the All-Tournament team with a six-game average of 204.0, which was good enough for sixth overall as an individual.

Marian Santos averaged 194.8 through five Traditional games, which placed her No. 13 overall. Gabriella Ochoa Hubbard averaged 190.33 over six games to finish in 18th place.

North Carolina A&T State Comes in Fourth in Stallings Invite

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- 
North Carolina A&T, the sixth-ranked team in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, closed out its annual NCATSU Vernelle Stallings Invitational on Sunday at AMF All-Star Lanes with a fourth-place finish. The Aggies entered the day as the No. 2 seed in the best-of-seven bracket play in Baker match format. 

Before bracket play started, the Aggies played an additional traditional game against ninth-ranked Sam Houston State University (SHSU). The Bearkats defeated A&T 933-875 to drop the Aggies to 5-1 in traditional play for the tournament. It was the Aggies lowest pinfall of traditional play as junior Melanie Katen led the way with a 184. Bea Hernandez put it in a 213 to lead the Bearkats. 

Sophomore teammate Chloe Newberry had another top-5 finish, knocking down 1,227 total pins for an average of 204.5 over six games. Jada Bassette had a productive Senior Day for the Aggies. In three games, she averaged 199.33 and totaled 598 pins.

Morgan State Finishes Second at New Jersey Open

HAMILTON, N.J. -- 
The Morgan State Lady Bears won their first two matches on Sunday, putting them in the championship match against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Knights bowled well in the match to beat the Lady Bears, with the Lady Bears taking home second place and placing Cheyenne Washington on the All-Tournament Team.
 
Coming into the championship bracket round, Morgan State was in second place among the 11 teams in the field.

Monmouth Finishes Third in New Jersey Open

HAMILTON, N.J. -- 
The Monmouth University bowling team finished in third out of 11 teams and posted an 8-4 overall record at the NJ Open this past weekend.

The Hawks entered Sunday's championship bracket as the fourth seed, and after losing top No. 15 (and top-seeded) Fairleigh Dickinson in a seven-game series, Monmouth won the third-place match over Wilmington, 4-3.
 
The tandem of Jamie Phelan and Skylar Smith led the charge for Monmouth. Both posted a high game of 255, with Phelan earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. The lefty averaged 216.5 pins per game, including three 200+ games. Smith, a fifth-year senior, added two 200+ performances.
