NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 21, 2023—North Carolina Central redshirt junior guard Kimeira Burks was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Delaware State’s Savannah Brooks was named Rookie of the Week, while Howard University senior forward Brooklynn Fort-Davis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Burks (5-8, r-Jr., G, Chicago, Ill.) averaged 19.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game this past week, shooting a combined 13-for-31 (42%) from the floor. She opened the week with a 17-point effort against Delaware State, before following that up with 22 points – on six 3-pointers – with three rebounds, three steals and two assists against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Brooks (5-9, Fr., G/F, Taneytown, Md.) went for 13 points, six rebounds and three assists in the Hornets’ win over South Carolina State, after turning in a 9-point, 6-rebound, 4-steal, 3-assist effort against North Carolina Central.
Fort-Davis (6-0, Sr., F, Chicago, Ill.) grabbed 15 rebounds in two games this past week, an average of 7.5 per game, and 14 of those came on the defensive end. Against Coppin State, she grabbed eight boards – all on defense – and a pair of steals, and against Morgan State, she pulled down seven rebounds and blocked a shot.

Colleen Bucknor (Coppin State) grabbed 13 rebounds against Howard to go along with nine points.
Jewel Watkins (Coppin State) had 10 points and four rebounds against Norfolk State.
Jessica Martino (Delaware State) grabbed 14 boards against South Carolina State.
Alexis Moragne (Delaware State) scored 18 points against South Carolina State and 12 against North Carolina Central, while also dishing out three assists in both games.
Destiny Howell (Howard) dropped 24 points and hit four 3-pointers against Morgan State.
Charlene Shepherd (Morgan State) had 20 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists against Howard.
Deja Francis (Norfolk State) had 16 points, six assists and four rebounds against Morgan State.
Kierra Wheeler (Norfolk State) grabbed 10 rebounds against Morgan State.
