MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 20, 2023 Morgan State University senior Asia Thomas has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced on Monday. Meanwhile, Maryland Eastern Shore freshman Jaycee Holt is the Rookie of the Week and Morgan State junior Anaya Hunte is the Pitcher of the Week.
 
Thomas (OF, Jr., Tampa, Fla.) batted .438 (7-for-16) with four runs, an RBI and two stolen bases while helping the Lady Bears to a 2-3 record in the Houston Classic. In the comeback win over Hofstra, she went 3-for-4 with a home run, one RBI and three runs scored. Thomas ended the weekend with a .688 slugging percentage, a double and a team-high 11 total bases.
 
Holt (OF, Fr., Birchwood, Tenn.) hit .500 after going 6-for-12 in four games this past weekend. She also recorded two walks, two runs and stole two bases.
 
Hunte (P, Jr., Burlington, N.J.) went 1-1 with a 2.47 ERA in three appearances for the week. She pitched a total of 17 innings, allowing six runs on 16 hits while striking out five batters. In the Lady Bears’ 2-1 win over Hofstra, she tossed all 10 innings, allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts.
 
Other Top Performers
Kelsie Ekstrom (Maryland Eastern Shore) went 3-for-7 with four walks, two RBI and a double in four games.
 
Katelyn Smitchko (Maryland Eastern Shore) pitched her first career complete game in the win over South Carolina State. She allowed one earned run on struck out two batters.
