MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 14, 2023North Carolina Central redshirt senior forward Kris Monroe and Delaware State senior guard O’Koye Parker have been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Howard University’s Shy Odom was named Rookie of the Week, and North Carolina Central graduate center Brendan Medley-Bacon was announced as the Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Monroe (6-8, r-Sr., F, Raleigh, N.C.) averaged a double-double as the Eagles went 2-0 against MEAC foes for the week, going for 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds a contest while shooting a combined 13-for-27 (48%) from the floor. He went for a career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds (to go along with two steals and two assists) against Coppin State – after turning in a 14-point, nine-rebound effort against Morgan State.
 
Parker (6-5, Sr., G, Wilmington, Del.) averaged 19.7 points a contest and shot a combined 11-for-16 from 3-point range in three games for the Hornets. His best game came against Howard, where Parker tied his career high with 24 points, hitting five of his six tries from behind the arc, and he also had 19 points on four made threes against Norfolk State. In a midweek win over Chicago State, Parker had 16 points, and for the week, he was a combined 20-for-33 (61%) from the floor.
 
Odom (6-6, Fr., F, Roxbury, Mass.) averaged 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds a contest as Howard went 2-0 for the week, shooting a combined 10-for-20 (50%) from the floor. He went for 13 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists against Delaware State, before adding 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists against Maryland Eastern Shore – a game in which he went 5-for-9 from the floor.
 
Medley-Bacon (7-0, Gr., C, Baltimore, Md.) averaged 3.0 blocks per game this past week, helping the Eagles pick up a pair of conference wins at home. He had six blocks on Saturday against Morgan State, falling one block shy of tying his career high, before adding two more blocks in Monday’s win over Coppin State. He also had a steal in each contest.
 
Other Top Performers
Elijah Hawkins (Howard) had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Maryland Eastern Shore, while also going for nine points, six assists and three steals against Delaware State.
 
Steve Settle III (Howard) recorded a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) at Delaware State.
 
Da’Shawn Phillip (Maryland Eastern Shore) dropped 20 points against Norfolk State.
 
Nathaniel Pollard, Jr. (Maryland Eastern Shore) grabbed 12 rebounds against Norfolk State, before turning in a nine-rebound, two-block game against Howard.
 
Kris Bankston (Norfolk State) blocked a career-high six shots against Delaware State.
 
Joe Bryant, Jr. (Norfolk State) went for 25 points against Maryland Eastern Shore, before adding 19 points against Delaware State.
