MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 7, 2023 – Delaware State guard Martaz Robinson and Coppin State forward Justin Winston were named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Delaware State guard Deywilk Tavarez was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State guard Jamarii Thomas earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Robinson (G, 6-2, 180, Baltimore, Md.) recorded back-to-back 20+ point games as the Hornets went 2-0 with wins against Chicago State and Loyola (Md.). Against Chicago State, he scored 24 points shooting 64.2 percent from the field (9-of-14) with five rebounds. In the 79-73 win against Loyola (Md.), Robinson led the Hornets with 26 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. He averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals.

Winston (F, 6-8, 220, West Orange, N.J.) dropped 37 points in the Eagles 89-70 win against UMBC to go along with 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Winston averaged 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.0 assists last week.

Thomas (G, 6-0, 185, Greensboro, NC) averaged 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals to help the Spartans finish the week with a 2-0 record. Against William & Mary, Thomas grabbed five rebounds and four steals, along with 23 points and nine assists. He pulled down three boards and registered three steals, with 17 points and five assists, in the 63-60 win over Virginia Commonwealth.

Tavarez (G, 6-2, 165, Pennsauken, N.J.) helped his Hornets to a 2-0 record with victories over Chicago State and Loyola (Md.). He scored 16 points, along with three rebounds, three assists, and one steal against Loyola (Md.).

Other Top Performers
Jevin Muniz (Delaware State) averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks last week. He scored 21 points with five rebounds in a win against Chicago State while knocking down 7-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range, and a perfect 5-for-5 at the charity stripe.

Perry Smith, Jr. (North Carolina Central) recorded a season-high 17 points, with five rebounds, one block and four steals against USC Upstate.

Seth Towns (Howard) scored a game-high 24 points in the 86-81 loss to Cincinnati. He added seven rebounds and three assists while shooting 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
