A Pair of Homecoming Games headline the Halfway Point in Conference Play in Week 10

MEAC football action has reached the halfway point with three exciting conference games in this weekend’s queue. All six MEAC football teams hit the gridiron kicking off with Delaware State on the road at Morgan State, Norfolk State travels to No. 9/12 North Carolina Central for the Eagles homecoming game, while Howard is at South Carolina State, also for the Bulldogs homecoming festivities.
 
Here is a look at this week's matchups.
 
Delaware State Hornets (1-7, 0-2 MEAC) at Morgan State Bears (2-5, 1-1 MEAC)

Morgan State picked up its first conference win after a come-from-behind victory against Norfolk State 32-28. Return specialist Keith Jenkins Jr. returned a 90-yard kickoff for a touchdown, and linebacker Erick Hunter returned a 60-yard interception for a touchdown in the team's victory. Both players earned conference weekly accolades for their efforts. The win snapped a five-game losing skid for the Bears. Delaware State enters the matchup on a three-game losing streak following a 17-10 loss to Howard last week. DSU's offense continues to grow each week, currently ranked third in the MEAC, averaging 187.9 ypg. Saturday marks the 67th meeting between the two programs, with Morgan State leading the series 39-27 over Delaware State.

Howard improved to .500 on the year and 2-0 in conference play after defeating Delaware State 17-10 in their last game. The Bison have shown themselves to be a second-half team with a 114-70 advantage in the second half of games and a 55-27 edge in the third quarter. Last week's victory marked the first back-to-back win for Howard this season. South Carolina State dropped their most lopsided matchup last week as they suffered a 62-28 loss to No. 9/12 North Carolina Central. Running back Jawarn Howell recorded his third straight 100-yard game with 126 yards on nine carries. The performance earned him his third consecutive MEAC Rookie of the Week honor. The Bulldogs celebrate homecoming this week, the last for head coach Buddy Pough since he announced his retirement at the start of the season. These two programs have played 49 times, with South Carolina leading the all-time series 37-12.

Norfolk State travels to Durham to face the conference-leading No. 9/12 North Carolina Central Eagles this week. The Spartans are on a four-game losing skid, including a 32-28 loss against Morgan State last week. Despite the losses, NSU is playing competitively in every game, with its previous four defeats within a one-score margin. North Carolina Central will host NSU for its homecoming, the fourth straight homecoming game for the Spartans. The Eagles moved to 7-1 overall and a 2-0 mark in conference play last week with a blistering 62-28 defeat over South Carolina State. Quarterback Davius Richard recorded seven touchdowns with two on the ground and five through the air against the Bulldogs. The performance earned him the MEAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Saturday's contest will be the 20th meeting between NCCU and NSU, with the Eagles leading the series 12-7. NCCU has won seven of the last nine matchups.
