MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 29, 2023 – Howard forward Seth Towns was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Coppin State guard Camaren Sparrow was named Rookie of the Week, while North Carolina Central guard Po’Boigh King earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Towns (F, 6-9, 230, Columbus, Ohio) recorded a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds in an 87-83 double overtime victory against Mount St. Mary’s. He shot perfectly from the charity stripe (7-for-7 FT), and tallied three assists, one block and one steal in the win.

King (G, 6-4, 195, Roanoke Rapids, NC) averaged 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals to help the Eagles finish the week with a 1-1 record. Against The Citadel, King grabbed eight rebounds and one steal, along with 14 points and one assist. He pulled down nine boards and registered two steals, with 21 points, in the 70-58 win over Coastal Carolina.

Sparrow (G, 6-4, 185, Baltimore, Md.) scored a season-high 14 points, along with two rebounds, two assists, and one steal against La Salle. He connected on 75 percent of his shots from the field (6-of-8) and 50 percent (1-of-2) from 3-point range.

Other Top Performers

Bryce Harris (Howard) shot perfectly from the field (10-for-10), including 3-for-3 from 3-point range, en route to 23 points, four rebounds, one block and three steals in a double-overtime win over Mount St. Mary’s.

Jamarii Thomas (Norfolk State) registered 17 points, knocking down 3-for-6 from behind the arc, with five rebounds, five assists and three steals against Wichita State. 

Greg Spurlock (Coppin State) recorded a team-high 15 points, with three rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal against La Salle.
