CSU’s women’s basketball team picked up their first win of the season over the Red Flash of Saint Francis University. The Eagles outscored the Red Flash in every quarter en route to the 70-34 win. Coppin State put up 13 and 20 points in the first two quarters respectively while holding Saint Francis to 11 points combined (8 & 3) to lead 33 to 11 at the half. The Eagles added another 37 points (22 & 15) n the third and fourth quarters and kept the Red Flash to 23 in the second half to claim the win.
Three Eagles scored in double-digits led by Laila Lawrence with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Faith Blackstone and Angel Jones added 15 and 14 points respectively while contributing four and six rebounds.

Men’s Basketball
South Carolina State 87, North Florida 77
SCSU improved to 2-1 on the season with an 87-77 victory over UNF on Monday evening in Orangeburg, SC. The Bulldogs opened the first half putting up 45 points over the Ospreys who scored only 26 in the first 20 minutes. North Florida collected themselves during halftime and came out in the second half scoring 51 points, but South Carolina State’s 42 points was enough for the Bulldogs to hold on for the win.
Omar Croskey led SCSU with 21 points shooting 7-of-10 form the field, a perfect two-of-two from behind the three-point arch and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Mitchel Taylor was closed behind with 17 points going 7-of-8 from the field with three free throws. Wilson Dubinsky was the last Bulldog in double-figures with 11 points. Davion Everett picked up 10 rebounds to lead all players in the game.

Norfolk State 75, Hampton 68
The Spartans improved to 3-0 on the season and picked up their first win over a division one opponent in the 2023-24 season after outlasting the Pirates of Hampton University on Monday night. NSU put up 41 points in the first half and led by nine at the break as HU tallied 32 points in the opening 20 minutes. Hampton battled back in the second half to pull within three points trailing 67-64 with two minutes remaining, however, Norfolk State managed to hold on closing out the game on a 9-4 run to win by seven points, 75-68.
Norfolk State was led by Jamarii Thomas with 20 points after going 12-of-16 from the free throw line. Jaylani Darden added 16 points going a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe as well as shooting 4-of-10 with a team-high nine rebounds. Allen Betrand was the last Spartan to score in double-digits with 10 points and eight rebounds.
