MEAC Announces Weekly Football Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., November 13, 2023 – Howard quarterback Quinton Williams was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Norfolk State’s Terron Mallory earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Howard’s Gavin Harris was named Rookie of the Week. Norfolk State’s Garrison Wheatley and Morgan State’s Jordan Toles received Offensive Lineman and Specialist of the Week accolades, respectively.
 
Williams (QB, 6-5, 205, Gr., Upper Marlboro, Md.) recorded a season-high four touchdowns in Howard’s win over No. 7 North Carolina Central. He completed 23-of-33 passes for 277 yards with three touchdowns and rushed four times for 15 yards with one touchdown.
 
Mallory (DB, 5-11, 188, Jr., New Haven, Conn.) became the first player in Norfolk State’s Division I history to record three interceptions in the Spartans’ victory over Delaware State.  He also totaled two tackles with one pass breakup in the team’s first conference win of the season.
 
Harris (TE, 6-3, 230, Fr., San Antonio, Texas) registered a career-high three catches for 41 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown reception, in Howard’s victory over No. 7 North Carolina Central.
 
Wheatley (OL, 6-4, 342, Jr., Johns Island, S.C.) graded out at 85 percent of his blocking assignments as he anchored the Spartans offense that recorded 459 yards, including 285 yards on the ground. He also recorded five pancake blocks and five knockdowns.
 
Toles (DB, 6-1, 209, Sr., Baltimore, Md.) fielded the ball on special teams and broke several tackeles to finish off an improbable 73-yard score with 4:44 left in the game to seal the Bears’ win over South Carolina State.
 
Other Top Performers
Darrian Brokenburr (Howard) produced a team-leading seven tackles, five solo, and two sacks in Howard’s win over North Carolina Central.
 
Dexter Carr Jr. (Morgan State) helped the Bears to 244 yards of total offense, including 158 yards rushing in a win over South Carolina State.
 
Brandon Codrington (North Carolina Central) returned a punt 85-yards for a touchdown against Howard.
 
J.J. Davis (Morgan State) finished with a season-high 15 carries for 108 yards and one touchdown against South Carolina State.

Marquis Gillis (Delaware State) rushed for 84-yards, on 20 carries with two touchdowns against Norfolk State.
 
Tyrell Martin (Delaware State) collected four solo tackles against Norfolk State.
 
Sam Pearson (Delaware State) graded out at 95 percent of blocking assignments with five pancake blocks against Norfolk State.
 
A.J. Richardson (Norfolk State) led the team with five tackles and one tackle for loss in a win over Delaware State.
 
Grandin Willcox (Norfolk State) hit all three field goal attempts and five-point-after attempts.
