NORFOLK, Va. (October 9, 2023) - Maryland Eastern Shore junior Ranyla Griggs was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Delaware State’s Ella Sanders was named Rookie of the Week, while Coppin State’s senior Andrea Tsvetanova was named Setter of the Week. Coppin State’s sophomore Laila Ibrahim earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Griggs (Jr., OH, Atlanta, Ga.) averaged 3.67 kills per set, including 33-of-59 attempts, over nine sets played last week. She led all players with a season-high 19 kills in the five-set win over North Carolina Central, while also adding a service ace, two blocks, and two digs. She recorded 14 kills in four sets, hitting .214, along with three blocks and one dig in a win over South Carolina State.
Sanders (Fr., OH, Albuquerque, N.M.) averaged 2.83 kills, 0.83 aces, and 1.83 digs per set to aid Delaware State to a 2-0 finish last week. She hit an impressive .556 with a match-high 11 kills, along with two aces and two digs in a win against South Carolina State. Sanders led DSU with nine digs and three service aces to go along with six kills and a pair of blocks in a three-set win over North Carolina Central.
Tsvetanova (Sr., S, Sofia, Bulgaria) recorded a match-high 37 assists (12.33 avg) with two kills, three digs, one block, and two aces in a win against Norfolk State that gave Coppin State sole possession of first in the MEAC standings. She also averaged 11.33 assists (34 total) in a win over Howard. For the week, Tsvetanova racked up 71 assists, two kills, two aces, two blocks, and seven digs in six sets.
Ibrahim (So., MB, Alberta, Canada) averaged 4.33 kills and 1.66 blocks in six sets for the Eagles. She put up five kills and four blocks in a three-set win against Norfolk State. Ibrahim followed with eight kills and match-high six blocks against Howard.

TaKenya Stafford (CSU) – averaged 3.66 kills, 2.33 digs, and 0.83 blocks per set against Norfolk State and Howard.
Emmie Modlin (NCCU) - averaged 3.13 kills per set hitting 0.212 through eight sets for the Eagles of North Carolina Central.
Valeria Matias (UMES) - registered 39 digs over the weekend along with 11 assists and a service ace in two matches last week.
Loren Johnson (NCCU) - collected 26 digs, six assists, and five aces in eight sets for the Eagles against Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.
Coco Figueroa (CSU) - totaled nine digs, two aces, and an assist to help the Eagles stay atop the MEAC standings.
Amarah Johnson (NCCU) - recorded six kills, three blocks, and three digs in both matches against UMES and Delaware State.
Kayla Diaz (HOW) - had a match-leading 34 assists, five digs, and three kills at Coppin State.
Bella Dearinger (NCCU) - averaged 7.75 assists per set (62 total) over the weekend to pair with 13 digs, two kills, two blocks, and an ace.
