SMYRNA, Del., Oct. 28, 2023 – Perennial powerhouse Norfolk State University
swept the top four spots to win the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's cross country championship on Saturday at the Delaware State Outreach & Research Center.
The Spartans won their fourth straight title and 16
th overall.
Kenneth Giles was again named Outstanding Coach. Gidion Sigei was named Outstanding Performer after winning individual gold with a time of 24:39.1. The Spartans were also second, third, and fourth with Raphael Kitur (25:03.9), Brian Rotich (25:22.2), and Victor Jumo (26:18.9).
The Spartans finished with just 18 points and also saw Evans Pololet (eighth, 26:57.6) finishing in the top 10.
Delaware State's was paced by Marian Drazan (fifth, 26:22.7) and Devin Smith (sixth, 26:32.2), while North Carolina Central's Laderique McNeill (seventh, 26:37.8) and Morgan State's Jackson Waller (ninth, 27:12.3) and Perry Bennett (tenth, 27:19.0) also finished in the top 10.
Delaware State finished second with 71 points and North Carolina Central was third with 81 points.
The top 15 finishers were named All-MEAC.
