Norfolk State wins the 2023 MEAC Women's Cross Country Championship

SMYRNA, Del., Oct. 28, 2023 – Norfolk State University placed five runners in the top 10 on Saturday to win the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women’s cross country championship at the Delaware State Outreach & Research Center.
 
The Spartans return to the podium for the first time since 2021 and claim their fifth title overall.
 
Kenneth Giles was named the meet’s Outstanding Coach. Norfolk State’s Mercyline Kimayio was named Outstanding Performer after winning the individual title for the second consecutive year with a 5K time of 18:24.9.
 
Rachel Ozio paced the Eagles of N.C. Central finishing second with a time of 18:45.2. Joslyn Crosby led the Bison, finishing third with an 18:54.3 time.
 
Norfolk State had five runners in the top ten; Jahmei Wyatt came in fifth after running an 19:22.5, while Kara Grant was sixth with an 19:29.2. Dorcas Kosgei claimed an eighth place finish (19:35.8) with Ludjenie Mondesir finishing tenth (19:44.7).
 
Joining Crosby in the top-ten for Howard were Camille Egbula with a fourth place finish (19:09.0) and Breanna McDonald (19:31.6) who crossed the finish line seventh.
 
North Carolina Central’s Laila Jackson was ninth, running a 19:43.3.
 
Norfolk State finished with 30 points as a team. Howard had 49 points to finish second, while N.C. Central came in third with 60 points.
 
The top 15 finishers were named All-MEAC.
