Two Weekend Matchups Continue to Help Shape Conference Standings in Week 9

The second week of conference play features South Carolina State at North Carolina Central during a televised matchup on Thursday night. Howard travels to Dover to face Delaware State, while Morgan State takes on Norfolk State during the Spartans homecoming game. 

Here is a look at this weekend’s matchups.

Howard travels to Dover, Delaware, to face off against Delaware State in the second week of conference play. The Bison topped Norfolk State on homecoming 27-23. In the tight affair, QB Quinton Williams threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns on 14-24 completions, earning him MEAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Defensive back Kenny Gallop Jr. helped seal the deal with a late-game interception. Gallop Jr. was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week and received the FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week. Delaware State will look to bounce back against Howard after falling to South Carolina State in their last matchup, 35-7. QB Aaron Angelos threw for 140 yards and one touchdown. The Hornets are the host team for the second straight week and look to extend the all-time series record, boasting a one-game edge in the overall matchup (7-6).  
 
Morgan State Bears (1-5, 0-1 MEAC) at Norfolk State Spartans (2-5, 0-1)

The Bears look to get their first conference win after losing to No.10/13 N.C. Central 16-10 in their last matchup. Morgan State put together a game-high 285 yards on 57 plays, and QB Dominique Anthony completed 17-28 passes for 167 yards and one touchdown. After back-back losses on the road, Norfolk State welcomes Morgan State on Saturday during their homecoming game. The Spartans came up short last week in the nailbiter finish, losing to Howard 27-23. Quarterback Otto Kuhns threw for a season's best 218 yards and one touchdown on 16-of-26 completions. The game is televised on ESPN+ and broadcast taped delayed at 11 p.m. on ESPNU. The Spartans lead the series 14-1, including the last three meetings.
