Howard senior safety Kenny Gallop Jr. collected FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honors as announced by FCS | The Analyst on Monday afternoon.
Gallop Jr. helped the Bison defeat the Spartans of Norfolk State in a come-from behind performance to win 27-23 in Howard's Homecoming football game in Washington, D.C. The Portsmouth, Virginia native posted a season-high 11 tackles and had a last-second interception to preserve the Bison victory over the Spartans. His pick occurred on the Bison one-yardline with five seconds left to prevent NSU from going ahead. Gallop Jr. collected six solo tackles and recorded seventh double-figure tackles game. He was also credited for a six-yard half tackle for loss and a four-yard half sack, as well as a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup.
