MEAC Announces Weekly Football Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., October 16, 2023 – Norfolk State quarterback Otto Kuhns was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. NSU linebacker A.J. Richardson earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while S.C. State’s Jawarn Howell was named Rookie of the Week. NSU’s Garrison Wheatley and teammate Noah Tracey received Offensive Lineman of the Week and Specialist of the Week accolades, respectively.

Kuhns (QB, 6-3, 194, Jr., Columbus, Ohio) completed 10-of-27 passes for 129 yards through the air and rushed 12 times for 36 yards with two touchdowns in the Spartans game against Tennessee State.

Richardson (LB, 6-1, 235, Fr., King’s Mountain, N.C.) registered 11 tackles, nine solo, with 1.5 tackles for a loss of six yards against Tennessee State.

Wheatley (OL, 6-4, 361, Jr., Johns Island, S.C.) anchored the Spartans offensive line that accounted for 279 yards of total offense, including 150 yards on the ground.

Howell (RB, 6-1, 215, Fr., Mooresville, N.C.) caught three passes for 93 yards including one touchdown through the air and rushed nine times for 34 yards against Tennessee Tech.

Tracey (P, 6-1, 175, Fr., Springwood, Australia) punted six times for 229 yards, 38.2 avg., including one downed inside the 20-yard line.

Other Top Performers
Kenny Gallop, Jr. (Howard) recorded a team-leading seven tackles, three solo, including one tackle for a loss, against No. 19 Harvard.

Aaron Smith R-Jr. (S.C. State) collected 12 tackles, six solo, with 1.5 for a loss of 14 yards.
