NORFOLK, Va., October 9, 2023 – North Carolina Central quarterback Davius Richard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola. Howard defensive back Carson Hinton earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while NCCU’s Torricelli Simpkins III received Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades.
Richard (QB, 6-3, 220, Sr., Belle Glade, Fla.) amassed 285 yards of total offense and recorded four touchdowns in NCCU’s road win over No. 25 Elon. He averaged 10.4 yards per carry with 114 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries, while completing 21-of-35 passes for 171 yards one touchdown through the air.
Hinton (DB, 6-0, 196, Sr., Detroit, Mich.) registered a game-high eight tackles, six solo, including two tackles for a loss of 15 yards against Northwestern.
Simpkins III (OL, 6-4, 320, Jr., Charlotte, NC) recorded a blocking grade of 85 percent of all assignments with three pancake blocks as he anchored the Eagles’ offensive line that accounted for 378 yards of total offense.
