Coppin State 72, North Carolina Central 67

BALTIMORE, Md. -- 
Mossi Staples led all scorers with 26 points and hit the game-winning three to lift Coppin State to a 72-67 victory over North Carolina Central in its MEAC opener on Monday night at PEC Arena.

Coppin now stands at 4-12 overall, while NCCU falls to 6-11 and 0-2 in league play.

Staples hit seven of 17 from the floor with three 3-pointers while making nine of 12 from the line. She added six rebounds, five assists and four steals and 12 of her points came in the fourth quarter. Jalynda Salley also finished in double figures, tallying 14 points with seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Howard 56, Maryland Eastern Shore 47

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- 
On a night when the team's leading scorer, junior guard Destiny Howell, had an off game, it was Aziah Hudson who picked up the slack with 21 points, and Brooklyn Fort-Davis, who contributed 17, to lead Howard to a 56-47 win Maryland Eastern Shore at the Hytche Athletics Center. 

It was the third straight win for the Bison (6-9), who upped their conference record to 2-0.
 
Hudson, a 5-foot-7 gradate transfer stepped up big time, connecting a sizzling career-high 6-for-9 from the 3-point line, tallying 17 of her points in the first three quarters.

Norfolk State 40, Delaware State 26

DOVER, Del. --
Norfolk State found itself in yet another defensive struggle Monday evening in Memorial Hall Gym, but again the Spartans prevailed -- this time 40-26 over Delaware State.

Norfolk State improved to 14-3 overall, 2-0 in MEAC play on the season.

Camille Downs led the Spartans with eight points, eight rebounds and four steals. Kierra Wheeler grabbed a team-high nine boards, while Mahoganie Williams blocked five shots.
