Delaware State 71, Coppin State 66
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Delaware State men's basketball team has extended its win streak to three with a 71-66 victory at Coppin State on Monday.
A week after snapping a 15-game slide, the Hornets have rode the momentum to post their longest win streak since consecutive victories over North Carolina A&T, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Morgan State during the 2016-17 season. Delaware State has also won back-to-back road game for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign.
Junior guard Martaz Robinson continued his recent hot string, topping four double-figure scorers for the Hornets with 20 points on eight-for-17 shooting from the field, including two three-pointers. Robinson also led Delaware State with 10 rebounds to record his first collegiate double-double.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday (Feb. 4) against Morgan State in the Michael B. Jordan-led HBCU Legacy Classic at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., the second meeting between the long-time rivals in eight days. Delaware State, playing at home, defeated the Bears 64-62 on a basket by Robinson with 2.4 seconds left to play last Saturday.
Maryland Eastern Shore 72, Morgan State 58
BALTIMORE, Md. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team continued its excellent season and start to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, knocking off Morgan State University 72-58 on Monday evening.
For the Hawks (13-8, 6-1 MEAC), it's the first six-game winning streak since the 1973-74 season, when the program opened its season with 20 consecutive victories. It's also the first six-game winning streak of Jason Crafton's coaching career, conveniently coming on his 41st birthday as well.
The 6-1 start to league play for UMES is also the best since the 1973-74 season, when the Hawks got out to an 8-1 start in the MEAC.
Nathaniel Pollard Jr. notched his second double-double in as many games, the second time this season he has collected back-to-back double-doubles. Pollard finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
At the halfway point of conference play, the Hawks return home for their final non-conference tilt of the season. UMES hosts Regent University on Thursday, February 2 with tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Hytche.
