Monmouth Rebounds With Strong Weekend at Garden State Classic
NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- After a tough weekend at the Northeast Classic last time out, Monmouth bounced back with an impressive 9-1 record at the Garden State Classic this weekend, as they played host to seven other schools during the two-day event.
On Friday, the Hawks went a perfect 5-0 in Baker play, picking up wins against Bryant (872-861), William Smith (760-571), Molloy (953-864), Howard (943-806), and No. 25 Merrimack (972-941). In 25 games, the Hawks averaged 180.0 pins per game, which was second-best in on the day.
In Saturday's Traditional format, Monmouth went 2-0 in the round robin matches and 2-1 in bracket play. The Hawks started the day off with wins over St. Francis Brooklyn by a score of 812-675 and Bloomfield, 959-766. In bracket play, the team won big over William Smith (843-636) before dropping their first match of the weekend to Molloy, 828-858. In the third-place match, the Hawks handled Bloomfield again, this time 856-735.
Junior Jenna Lehrer and fifth-year senior Skylar Smith were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts in Traditional play. Individually, Smith and Lehrer ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, as both had high games of 202.

North Carolina A&T State Finishes Fifth in Prairie View Invite
ARLINGTON, Texas -- North Carolina A&T State went from eighth place to fifth on the final day of the Prairie View A&M Invitational Sunday at the International Training and Research Center.
Before bracket play, the second-ranked team in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll fell to third-ranked Vanderbilt 1,066-935 to enter bracket play as the No. 8 seed.
Graduate Katie Robb bowled a 174 against Vanderbilt to finish in second place, six pins behind first-place Madyson Marx from Youngstown State. Marx finished with 1,322 pins and Robb totaled 1,316 for a six-match average of 219.33. Jada Bassette bowled her only individual match with a 207 against Vanderbilt.
Robb was the top individual in Traditional play, finishing with 1,142 total pins and a 228.4 average.
