Morgan State 83, Coppin State 66

BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior guard Isaiah Burke scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the first half, while Malik Miller added 16 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, as visiting Morgan State (9-8, 3-0 MEAC) defeated crosstown rival Coppin State (6-14, 1-2 MEAC), 83-66 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at the Physical Education Complex.

Burke connected on 5-of-11 from the floor, 5-of-8 from three and converted 15-of-18 from the free throw line. Miller recorded his eighth double-double of the season as he finished with 16 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, to go along with five assists, and three steals in 39 minutes.

Morgan State steps out of conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Hartford in a 6 p.m. matchup.

North Carolina Central 71, South Carolina State 67

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team defeated South Carolina State 71-67 in its MEAC home opener inside McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday evening. The Eagles remain unbeaten at home this season and extend their home game winning streak to nine, dating back to the end of last season (3/3/22).

Graduate student Brendan Medley-Bacon impacted the game on both ends of the floor, finishing with 15 points, eight boards, and three blocks. His rim protection and ability to alter Bulldog shots in the paint were huge for the Eagles' defense.

Up next, NCCU (9-8, 2-1 MEAC) returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21, and Monday, Jan. 23, hosting Delaware State University and Maryland Eastern Shore inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.

Howard 86, Norfolk State 84

NORFOLK, Va. – Howard University sophomore guard Marcus Dockery poured in a game-high 24 points, but it was the clutch free throw shooting of fellow D.C. natives guards Elijah Hawkins and Jelani Williams that proved to be the difference as HU pulled off an 86-84 win over Norfolk State (NSU) in a wild Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown at Echols Memorial Hall.

The Bison improve to 9-10 (2-1 MEAC) while the Spartans (12-6, 2-1 MEAC) had their 19-game home win streak come to a halt. Howard has a short turnaround as it hosts Morehouse College Monday (Jan. 14) in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day Classic in Burr Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FS1.

Maryland Eastern Shore 68, Delaware State 66

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. —  The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team endured Saturday evening's bout against its Route 13 rival, securing a 68-66 win over Delaware State at William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

The win moved UMES to 7-0 at home this season, the best start on its home floor since 1996. The team currently sits at 9-8 on the year, the first time the program has held a record above .500 beyond the season opener since 2014.

UMES will begin packing and preparing for their trip to the Carolinas next weekend, facing South Carolina State on Saturday, January 21 and North Carolina Central on Monday, January 23.
