NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 10, 2023 – Senior guard Isaiah Burke of Morgan State has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Morgan State’s Kamron Hobbs was named Rookie of the Week, and senior guard Malik Miller of Morgan State was announced as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Burke (6-1, Sr., G, Bowie, Md.) shot a combined 55.6% from the floor (20-for-36) and 57.1% from behind the arc (12-for-21) in a pair of wins for the Bears this past weekend, averaging 29.0 points per game. He opened MEAC play on Saturday with 28 points against North Carolina Central, going 9-for-14 from the floor and 6-for-9 from distance, and on Monday, he dropped a career-high 30 points and hit six more 3-pointers in a win over South Carolina State.
Hobbs (5-10, Fr., G, Stockbridge, Ga.) averaged 14.0 points per game for the Bears in a pair of wins to open MEAC play – including an 18-point, five-rebound, five-assist effort against South Carolina State, going 7-for-13 from the floor and hitting four 3-pointers. He also scored in double figures against North Carolina Central, going for 10 points.
Miller (6-4, Sr., G, Washington, D.C.) averaged 9.5 rebounds per game this past week, and of his 19 total rebounds, 14 were on the defensive end. Miller also averaged 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals a contest. Against South Carolina State, he had 12 rebounds, four blocks and three steals (to go along with a game-high 32 points), and against North Carolina Central, he grabbed seven boards and blocked a shot.

Sam Sessoms (Coppin State) dropped 26 points to go along with seven steals and four assists against South Carolina State before adding 21 points and four dimes against North Carolina Central.
Nendah Tarke (Coppin State) had four steals against North Carolina Central and two against South Carolina State.
Jevin Muniz (Delaware State) scored a career-high 22 points against Norfolk State.
Marcus Dockery (Howard) grabbed three steals against Maryland Eastern Shore and two against Delaware State.
Jelani Williams (Howard) scored 23 points on 6-for-6 shooting, hitting three 3-pointers, against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Troy Hupstead (Maryland Eastern Shore) had 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting in a win over Howard.
Nathaniel Pollard, Jr. (Maryland Eastern Shore) had eight rebounds, two blocks and a steal against Howard.
George Beale (Norfolk State) dropped 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting and five made 3-pointers at Delaware State.
Joe Bryant, Jr. (Norfolk State) dropped 20 points and dished out six assists at Delaware State, while also scoring 19 points to go along with six assists against Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
Justin Wright (North Carolina Central) had 21 points against Coppin State to go along with nine rebounds.
