This in-state showdown between the defending MEAC champion Bulldogs and the Gamecocks has been moved to Thursday night due to Hurricane Ian. South Carolina leads the all-time series 2-0, even though these two teams have not met since 2009 – when the Gamecocks won 38-14. The first-ever meeting came in 2007, when South Carolina won 38-3. The Gamecocks, in their second year under head coach Shane Beamer, are coming off a 56-20 win over Charlotte, while the Bulldogs are looking to bounce back after a 41-27 loss this past weekend for former MEAC rival North Carolina A&T State.

Howard comes off a bye week with a road game against an Ivy League foe, playing in the NAACP Harmony Classic against Yale in New Haven, Conn. on Saturday. The Bison picked up their first win of the season their last time out, defeating Morehouse 31-0 on Sept. 17 in the HBCU NYC Classic. This will be the first of two games for Howard against an Ivy League foe this season; the Bison will also take on Harvard in the Truth & Service Classic on Oct. 15. Yale won its Ivy League opener this past weekend, defeating Cornell 38-14 for its first win of the season. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Virginia University of Lynchburg continues its 2022 MEAC tour this Saturday with a trip to Baltimore to take on Morgan State. The Bears are coming off a bye week, but prior to that, they picked up head coach Damon Wilson’s first win with a 24-9 triumph over Sacred Heart on Sept. 17. The Dragons, meanwhile, fell 59-14 this past weekend to North Carolina Central. Morgan State and Lynchburg have faced off just one other time: 2019, when the Bears won 59-26. Lynchburg has already faced NCCU and Delaware State in 2022, and later this season, the Dragons will also take on South Carolina State.

The Eagles just keep winning after this past Saturday’s 59-14 defeat of Virginia University of Lynchburg, a game in which NCCU recorded its highest single-game point total since 2016 and eight different Eagles found the end zone. NCCU will hit the road again on Saturday, heading to Buies Creek for an in-state showdown against Campbell out of the Big South. The game has been moved up from 6 p.m. to 12 noon due to the potential effects of Hurricane Ian. The Eagles are off to their best start since 2006, and Campbell is coming off a 49-10 loss to East Carolina this past weekend. The Camels are in their 10th season under head coach Mike Minter. The Camels were picked to finish second in the Big South this season, and defensive end Brevin Allen was named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Norfolk State Spartans (0-4, 0-0 MEAC) vs. Sacred Heart Pioneers (2-2, 1-0 NEC)

Norfolk State is still in search of its first win of the season after this past weekend’s 45-26 loss to Saint Francis, and the Spartans will hit the road for the third time this season to take on Sacred Heart out of the Northeast Conference. These two teams have never met before. The Pioneers are coming off a 38-31 overtime win over Dartmouth this past weekend, and they will be facing their second MEAC foe of the 2022 campaign (Sacred Heart faced Morgan State on Sept. 17, falling 24-9). The Pioneers are NEC preseason favorites and placed seven on the NEC preseason teams, coming into 2022 with head coach Mark Nofri in his 10th season at the helm.
Robert Morris Colonials (0-3, 0-0 Big South) vs. Delaware State Hornets (2-2, 0-0 MEAC)

This weekend will see Delaware State play at home for the fourth time in the first five weeks of the 2022 season, and the Hornets are coming off a 26-13 loss to Merrimack College this past weekend. Robert Morris, Big South associate member for football, will visit Dover, Del. for the first time, as these two programs have never faced each other. Robert Morris is in search of its first win of the season after a 45-3 loss to East Tennessee State this past weekend. The Colonials are in their fifth season under head coach Bernard Clark, Jr., and they were picked to finish sixth in the Big South while placing five on the Preseason All-Big South teams.
