NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 21, 2022 – Delaware State sophomore Devin Smith was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Morgan State senior Rachel Field was named Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Smith (So., Waldorf, Md.) won the Hornets’ season-opening DSU Sting Invite (5K) in 16:26.2, 14 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Delaware State claimed the team victory with an average time of 16:54 per finish.
Field (Sr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) ran a personal-best 5k time of 19:42.6 to capture the individual title at the DSU Sting Invite. She was one of three Lady Bears to place in the top 10 to help Morgan to a second-place team finish.
Other Top Performers
Mercyline Kimaiyo (Norfolk State) placed 24th in the UVA Invitational (5K) in 18:44.7.
Gidion Sigei (Norfolk State) finished 17th in the UVA Invitational, completing the 6K course in 18:09.4.
