MEAC Announces Weekly Volleyball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 19, 2022Delaware State junior middle blocker Alondra Maldonado was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Howard’s Rya McKinnon was named Rookie of the Week and Coppin State senior Andrea Tsvetanova was named Setter of the Week, while Coppin State graduate student Yaniris Miller-Green earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Maldonado (6-1, Jr., MB, Patillas, Puerto Rico) averaged 3.2 kills and 0.8 blocks per set and hit a combined .337 in 13 sets this past weekend as the Hornets won two of their three matches to extend the winning streak to 10. She opened with 16 kills and two blocks against Binghamton, before going error-free and swinging .909 in recording 10 kills and four blocks against Merrimack. In a five-set loss to West Virginia, Maldonado had 16 more kills and five blocks.
 
McKinnon (5-11, Fr., OH, Bessemer, Ala.) recorded her first career double-double, racking up 13 kills and 10 digs while hitting .300 in a sweep of Albany, to close out the weekend in the Penn State Classic. In the first match against Coastal Carolina, she hit .526 while recording 11 kills and six digs.
 
Tsvetanova (5-9, Sr., S, Sofia, Bulgaria) was named MVP of the Liberty Tournament after averaging 9.7 assists, 2.1 digs and 1.0 aces per set. She led the Eagles to four wins over the week, increasing Coppin’s winning streak to seven, and she recorded a double-double with a weekend-high 42 assists and 11 digs against Eastern Michigan (to go along with six aces). She had four aces each against Liberty and Radford, going for 39 and 35 assists, respectively, in those matches.
 
Miller-Green (6-1, Gr., OH, Santo Domingo, D.R.) averaged 1.7 blocks per set, providing the Eagles with a force at the net in wins over George Washington, Eastern Michigan, Liberty and Radford. She opened with seven blocks against George Washington, before recording a new career high with 11 blocks (two solo) against Eastern Michigan and adding eight more against the tournament host Flames.
 
Other Top Performers
Kennedy Beatty (Coppin State) recorded a career-high eight digs against both Liberty and Radford.
 
Miajavon Coleman (Coppin State) had 15 kills against Eastern Michigan, before recording a double-double (11 kills, 12 digs) against Liberty.
 
Malgorzata Andersohn (Delaware State) had 31 assists and eight digs against Binghamton, before turning in 29 assists against West Virginia.
 
Sydney Lewis (Delaware State) racked up 10 blocks (three solo) against West Virginia.
 
Kayla Diaz (Howard) recorded 37 assists against Coastal Carolina, then had 35 assists, eight digs and three blocks against Albany.
 
Cimone Woodard (Howard) had seven kills, five blocks and two aces against Coastal Carolina and eight kills and three blocks against Albany.
 
Romina Vacca (Maryland Eastern Shore) recorded a weekend-high 19 assists against Morgan State.
 
Makila Billingsley (Morgan State) recorded 16 kills against Maryland Eastern Shore and 11 against George Mason.
 
Trinity Carruthers (Morgan State) hit .375 with three kills, five blocks and 39 assists against George Mason.
 
Justyus Jackson (Morgan State) had 10 kills and seven blocks against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Tori Wilson (North Carolina Central) racked up 13 kills in a midweek win over Campbell and had nine more against Robert Morris.
