NORFOLK, Va., Aug. 29, 2022—Coppin State graduate student Miajavon Coleman was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Howard’s Rya McKinnon was named Rookie of the Week and Coppin State senior Andrea Tsvetanova was named Setter of the Week, while Delaware State senior Sydney Lewis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Coleman (5-10, Gr., OH, San Antonio, Texas) recorded double-doubles in all three matches this past weekend, earning All-Tournament honors at the Aggie-Spartan Invitational. After opening with 18 kills and 10 digs in a win over North Carolina A&T State, Coleman went for 17 kills, 11 digs and a career-high six blocks on .300 hitting against UNC Greensboro – before closing with 13 kills and 12 digs against Bethune-Cookman.
McKinnon (5-11, Fr., OH, Bessemer, Ala.) hit .356 in two matches as Howard recorded wins over George Mason and Georgetown to open the season. In a four-set win over the Patriots on Friday, McKinnon had 14 kills and eight digs, hitting .344 and adding three aces, before turning in a .370 hitting effort in a sweep of Georgetown, recording 13 kills and seven digs.
Tsvetanova (5-9, Sr., S, Sofia, Bulgaria) averaged 9.9 assists per set and recorded two double-doubles in the Aggie-Spartan Invitational. She opened with 51 assists and 17 digs in a five-set win over North Carolina A&T State, before turning in a 42-assist, 10-dig performance against UNC Greensboro. She had at least three aces in each match, including a weekend-best five against Bethune-Cookman, a match in which she also had 45 assists and nine digs.
Lewis (6-1, Sr., MB, Bowie, Md.) averaged 1.4 blocks per set in the DoubleTree Youngstown State Invitational, and she racked up a career-high nine in Saturday’s win over Idaho. She also had six blocks against tournament host Youngstown State after opening the season with four against Valparaiso.

Kennedy Beatty (Coppin State) had eight digs each against North Carolina A&T State and UNC Greensboro, while also recording three aces against the Aggies.
Ashley Roman (Coppin State) racked up 30 digs against North Carolina A&T State and averaged 4.8 digs per set for the weekend.
Karen Cordero (Delaware State) had 15 kills and nine digs against Youngstown State and 14 kills against Idaho.
Malgorzata Andersohn (Delaware State) recorded double-doubles against Youngstown State (24 assists, 11 digs) and Valparaiso (19 assists, 10 digs).
Kayla Diaz (Howard) had 31 assists, five digs and three kills at Georgetown after turning in a 47-assist, 9-dig effort against George Mason.
Tamar Wells (Howard) had three blocks against Georgetown and two against George Mason.
Sophia Chacon (Maryland Eastern Shore) had a double-double against Binghamton with 31 assists and 13 digs.
Nkemjika Ikemefuna (Maryland Eastern Shore) racked up 12 kills on .375 hitting against Boston College.
Matias Valeria (Maryland Eastern Shore) racked up 20 digs against Binghamton.
Sydney McCree (Norfolk State) had 35 assists and nine digs against Furman.
Nicole Rodriguez (Norfolk State) had 22 digs against Furman and 13 against East Carolina.
Shonte Seale (Norfolk State) racked up 16 kills and 11 digs against Furman.
