Coppin Tennis Honored by ITA for Academic Success; Receives USTA David Dinkins HBCU Coaching Grant

TEMPE, Ariz. – Coppin State's men's and women's teams were both named 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I All-Academic Teams, it was announced by the ITA on Monday afternoon. 

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, the program must have at least a 3.2 team grade point average for the academic year.
 
Individually, Anas Haddou, Vansh Kapoor, Luka Markovic, Sergiu Medesan and Dean Waterman earned ITA Men's Scholar-Athlete status for recording at least a 3.50 GPA for the academic year. On the women's side, Kristina Georgieva, Iva Jankovic, Lucia Placidi and Christy Turner earned individual academic accolades.
 
Across the country, 933 Division I men's athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 163 men's programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. In 2022, 1,517 Division I women's athletes received Scholar-Athlete recognition with 250 women's programs earning the All-Academic Team award.
 
The Eagles were also awarded the USTA David N. Dinkins HBCU Coaching Grant, which is aimed at encouraging HBCU players to become certified coaches by providing personal and professional development opportunities. Funding from the grant can be used towards expenses to support the tennis program and the student-athletes will work with participants of the local National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) program.
