South Carolina State defensive coordinator Jonathan Saxon has been announced as one of three participants in the Bill Walsh Diversity Fellowship Program with the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL organization announced on Wednesday.
The defending Cricket Celebration Bowl champion's defense held the SWAC champion Jackson State Tigers to 10 points in December's HBCU postseason match-up. The former Bulldogs offensive lineman joined his alma mater as an assistant coach in 2014, working his way up to defensive coordinator.
Saxon has coached current Bulldogs in the NFL like Indianapolis Colts Linebacker Darius Leonard and 2022 Los Angeles Rams selection Cornerback Decobie Durant, the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Saxon has also spent time with the University of Louisville as a grad assistant, serving as defensive line coach for the Cardinals.
Joining Saxon with Seattle will be former Georgia linebacker Akeem Dent and McMaster University assistant coach Amanda Ruller.
