Bison Set to Meet Seminoles in the NCAA Regional

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 20, 2022 – The Howard University softball team is set to meet No. 2 Florida State in the NCAA Regional Friday night in Tallahassee, Fla. First pitch set for 8:30 p.m., live on ESPN+.

HOWARD
Howard (31-22) enters the regional after winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) title for the second time in program history (first since 2007). Howard received the MEAC's automatic bid after defeating long-time rival Morgan State twice on Championship this past Saturday (May 14).
 
Seniors Kalita Dennis (Elk Grove, Calif.) and Camille Navarro (Los Angeles), along with freshmen Lealani Ricks (Madera, Calif.) and Alyssa Vasquez (Downey, Calif.), lead the Bison attack.
 
In the circle, graduate Analise De La Roca (San Pedro, Calif.) leads HU's pitching staff.
 
FLORIDA STATE
Florida State (52-5) earned its 18th Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament Championship with an 8-6 win over No. 15 Clemson and have won their last 14 contests.
 
FSU has earned 14 wins over national seeds, including wins over No. 3 Virginia Tech, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Oklahoma State (twice), No. 10 Clemson (four times), No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 Duke, No. 14 Florida (twice) and No. 16 UCF.
 
After the regular season, eight Seminoles received All-ACC honors, led by three-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year Sydney Sherrill.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
On May 14, the Bison took down top-seeded Morgan State in a winner-take-all bout to capture the MEAC title for the second time in program history, outlasting the Lady Bears, 5-4. De La Roca delivered a championship performance with two complete-game shutouts while being named the tourney's outstanding performer.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard will play either USF (44-14) or Mississippi State (33-24) on Saturday. Time to be determined.
