Pairings Announced for 2022 MEAC Tennis Championships

NORFOLK, Va., April 25, 2022
– North Carolina Central will serve as host for the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championships, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. The brackets were officially unveiled on Monday.
 
All six men’s teams and all seven women’s teams will be competing for their respective titles.
 
South Carolina State will be the top seed in the men’s bracket after going 5-0 in MEAC play this season; the Bulldogs, who won the MEAC last season and have 16 titles overall (and 13 since 2004), will have a bye into Friday’s semifinal round, as will No. 2 seed Morgan State, which went 4-1 in MEAC play.
 
Thursday’s quarterfinal round will see No. 3 seed Howard take on No. 6 seed Norfolk State at 2 p.m., while the 4/5 match-up will be between North Carolina Central and Coppin State at the same time. South Carolina State will take on the winner of the NCCU-Coppin match, while Morgan State will face the Howard-Norfolk State winner.
 
On the women’s side, Howard is the top seed after going a perfect 6-0 in conference play and will have a bye into the semifinals.
 
The Bison will face the winner of Thursday’s 8 a.m. quarterfinal between No. 4 seed Delaware State and No. 5 seed North Carolina Central. The other 8 a.m. quarterfinal will pit No. 2 seed Morgan State against No. 7 seed Coppin State, while at 11 a.m. on Thursday, No. 3 seed and defending champion South Carolina State will take on No. 6 Norfolk State.
 
Friday’s semifinals will get underway with women’s matches at 9 a.m., followed by the men at 12 p.m.
 
Championship Saturday will get underway with the women’s title match at 9 a.m., followed at 1 p.m. by the men’s championship final.
 
Also, in a first for the conference, the semifinals and championship matches of the 2022 MEAC Tennis Championships will stream live for free on HBCUGO. The stream can be accessed on the web at hbcugo.tv, and fans can also download the HBCUGO app on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV.
