Howard Leads After Day 1 of 2022 MEAC Men’s Golf Championship

SILVER SPRING, Md., April 18, 2022
– Howard University fought through cold, rainy conditions on Monday at the Argyle Country Club to take the lead after day one of the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championship.
 
The Bison hold a five-shot lead over second-place Maryland Eastern Shore with a 310 (+26); the Hawks fired a 315 (+31), and North Carolina Central sits in third after a first-round 325 (+41).
 
There is a three-way tie atop the leaderboard after the first round, as Howard’s Gregory Odom, Maryland Eastern Shore’s Tyler McDonald and North Carolina Central’s Travis Jackson each shot a 5-over 76 on the par-71 layout. Odom had one of just two eagles on the day, carding a three on the par-5 12th.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore’s Justin Williams had the only other eagle of the day on the same hole.
 
There is also a three-way tie for second at 6-over; the Hawks’ Thabang Miophuli is tied with Howard teammates Joshua Siplin and Edrine Okong.
 
Logan Kiley of Maryland Eastern Shore sits seventh at 7-over (78).
 
Rounding out the individual top 10 are NCCU’s Daniel Barbare and Howard’s Everett Whiten, Jr., tied at 9-over (80), and the Bison’s Justin Green at +11 (82).
