Howard University senior Camille Navarro has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Monday. Meanwhile,
Morgan State sophomore Anaya Hunte and
Norfolk State freshman Kenna Higa are the Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Navarro (C/UTL, Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.) went 9-for-17 (.529) at the plate in five games this past week, scoring eight runs and driving in another four. She had three multi-hit games in that stretch, including a 4-for-4 performance with three RBIs and two runs against Bowie State. On Sunday against Mount St. Mary’s, she was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Hunte (P/OF, So., Burlington, N.J.) had an ERA of 0.00 in two appearances this past week, including a complete game and shutout over St. John’s on Saturday. She struck out seven in that contest, scattering three hits.
Higa (1B/3B, Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) was 5-for-10 (.500) in six games, hitting her third home run of the season and adding a double. She drove in three runs and scored a pair, while also walking three times and being hit by a pitch another four. For the week, Higa had a .900 slugging percentage.
Other Top Performers
Vanessa Carrizosa (Coppin State) had a pair of two-hit games and drove in a pair of runs against Towson.
Alyssa Vasquez (Howard) was 3-for-3 with a double against Mount St. Mary’s.
Julia Garcia (Maryland Eastern Shore) had three extra-base hits over the weekend, including a double and a home run against Winthrop.
Nasya Goodman (Maryland Eastern Shore) struck out three in the Hawks’ 9-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne.
Alexis Robinson (Norfolk State) notched two wins in four appearances, striking out six in 13.2 innings pitched.
