MEAC Announces Weekly Tennis Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., March 30, 2022Howard sophomore Justin Cadeau was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today, while Howard’s Tory Bailey was named Rookie of the Week. Howard freshman Jordan Grayson was named Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, and Delaware State’s Baluck Deang was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Cadeau (So., West Orange, N.J.) defeated Hampton’s Ange-Kevin Koua 6-1, 0-6, 7-6 in the No. 1 singles position after pairing with Gabe Knowles for a 6-0 doubles win at the No. 2 spot.
 
Bailey (Fr., Los Angeles, Calif.) won both his singles and doubles matches against Hampton on Saturday. He paired with Marcel Dawson for a 6-4 doubles win at the No. 1 position, then he defeated the Pirates’ Cliff Dwyer 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles slot.
 
Grayson (Fr., Gaithersburg, Md.) led the Bison in their 6-1 win over rival Hampton on Saturday, taking her singles match in the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-1 over Viktoria Ljungman. She also paired with Sifa Butcher for a 6-1 win over Ljungman and Milena Amedieva in No. 1 doubles.
 
Deang (Fr., Madison, Wisc.) was a perfect 4-0 this past week, winning both singles and doubles matches. Against Mount St. Mary’s, she won 7-5, 6-4 over Ryan McCarthy at No. 5, while also picking up a 7-6 win in doubles. Against Wilmington, Deang won 6-3, 6-4 over Larize Nel and 7-6 (7-4) in No. 3 doubles.
 
Other Top Performers
Kit Yi Kate Au-Yeung (Delaware State) went 2-0 in singles play, winning 7-5, 6-2 against Amber Policare of Mount St. Mary’s and 6-3, 6-2 over Wilmington’ Jess Purdy.
 
Sebastian Lopez (Morgan State) defeated Loyola’s Ryan Boland 6-1, 6-4 to improve to 7-3 in singles play on the season.
 
Averiana Mitchell (Morgan State) won 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) over Loyola’s Jessica Bodewes and also picked up a doubles victory.
 
Miles Clark (North Carolina Central) defeated Longwood’s Rosen Naydenov 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
 
Kennedy Hill (North Carolina Central) defeated Teodora Vujicic of South Carolina State 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
 
Aissa Benchakroun (South Carolina State) defeated Delaware’s Luis Molina 7-6, 6-3.
 
Rachida Berjane (South Carolina State) defeated North Carolina Central’s Jade Houston 7-5, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, while also grabbing a No. 2 doubles win, 6-4.
