MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., March 28, 2022Maryland Eastern Shore redshirt freshman Tatum Kresley has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player and Rookie of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Monday. Meanwhile, Morgan State junior Melissa Paz is the Pitcher of the Week.
 
Kresley (OF/P, r-Fr., Alburtis, Pa.) hit .769 for the week after going 10-for-13 to help the Hawks to the series win over North Carolina Central. In addition to her production at the plate, she scored seven runs, was 4-of-5 in stolen base attempts, drove in a run and committed no errors in the field. In the series opener, she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs and an RBI. In the final two games, she went a combined 6-for-8 and scored five runs.
 
Paz (P, Jr., Slymar, Calif.) went 2-1 in five appearances for the week. She logged a total of 12.2 innings and struck out 11 batters. Paz picked up a MEAC win after pitching 4.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits and striking out five in the series finale at Norfolk State.
 
 
Other Top Performers
Isabella Zalba (Coppin State) hit .400 (2-for-5) and scored a run in the doubleheader against Howard.
 
Camille Navarro (Howard) batted .429 with six runs, three stolen bases, two triples, two walks and two RBIs in five games.
 
Victoria Brown (Howard) Hit .400 with three runs scored and three stolen bases in five games for the week.
 
Mia Gonzales (Howard) tossed a complete-game shutout with five strikeouts in the game one victory over Coppin State and tallied 11 strikeouts for the week.
 
Mia Ewell (Morgan State) finished the week with a .316 batting average and four runs scored, three RBIs, two triples, a double and a home run.
 
Madison Mifsud (North Carolina Central) batted .417 with five hits, eight RBIs, three runs scored, one home run and one double; she hit a grand slam in the Eagles’ 11-9 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.
