BALTIMORE – Coppin State's Nendah Tarke and Tyree Corbett were named BOXTOROW HBCU Men's Basketball All-Americans, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday morning.
Tarke was a First Team selection, while Corbett earned Second Team honors in BOXTOROW's 14th Annual HBCU All-America Team.
A redshirt freshman from Gaithersburg, Md., Tarke finished the season leading the nation with 2.94 steals per game to go with 13.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists. Tarke was a First Team All-MEAC and All-Defensive Team selection after finish seventh in the league in scoring, second in rebounds, ninth in assists and first with 171 free throw attempts. Standing 6-foot-4, Tarke put up 15.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.1 steals in conference games.
Tarke set Coppin's NCAA-era single-season record for steals, recording 94 on the season which was the second-most in the Nation this season. Named the @NCAABuzzerBters Clutch Player of the Month in January, Tarke hit a nation's-best four game-winning buzzer-beaters this season, including one against Howard in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Basketball Tournament.
Corbett also earned All-America recognition after putting up 13.6 points and a MEAC-leading 9.2 rebounds and 11 double-doubles this season. A redshirt junior from Philadelphia, Pa., Corbett added 21 blocks on the season and averaged 13.4 points and 11.3 rebounds in MEAC games. Corbett was one of just two players in the Nation to notch a pair of games with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds, putting up 23 points with 22 rebounds at South Carolina State before a 25-point, 22 rebounds performance in Coppin's comeback win over Howard.
The Eagles finished 9-23 overall to go with a 6-8 record in MEAC games before advancing to the MEAC Basketball Tournament championship game with upset victories over the Bison and North Carolina Central. Coppin's trip to the title game was its first since the 2007-08 season.
