MEAC Softball Recap, March 18-19

NORFOLK, Va., March 19, 2022 – Norfolk State opened conference play by winning its MEAC series against Howard, while Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State and North Carolina Central picked up doubleheader sweeps on Saturday.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Norfolk State softball team went 2-1 against Howard (9-16, 1-2 MEAC) to open MEAC play this weekend. The Spartans split the doubleheader on Friday, taking the opening game 12-5, but falling 9-1 in five innings in the night cap. On Saturday, NSU (15-13, 2-1 MEAC) posted a 16-5 (5 innings) victory to win the series.

SALISBURY, Md. — On Saturday (March 19), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team began their conference slate of games with two impressive wins over the Delaware State University Hornets at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex. They won game 1 in six innings by a score of 8-0 and rallied back in game 2 to win 2-1.
 
Saturday's wins were the first victory over the Hornets since 2016. The wins also marked the first time the squad has won twice over Delaware State in the same season since 2009.

BALTIMORE, Md. — Reigning MEAC Champion Morgan State opened conference play with a doubleheader sweep of cross-town rival Coppin State on Saturday. The Lady Bears (9-8, 2-0 MEAC) defeated the Eagles (0-18, 0-2 MEAC) 5-3 in game 1 and posted a 5-0 victory in the second game.

North Carolina Central 10, South Carolina State 2 (6) | North Carolina Central 5, South Carolina State 4
 
DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central softball team defeated South Carolina State 10-2 and 5-4 in the MEAC opener for both teams on Saturday. NCCU improved to 5-14 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while SC State fell to 1-18 on the year and 0-2 in the MEAC.
